Caution, some spoilers ahead!
Ever since we read (and listened to the audiobook) of Andy Weir’s newest novel, Project Hail Mary, we waited with bated breath to see it come to the big screen.
With the first trailer for the film just dropping, we feel pretty confident the movie will be a faithful, and highly entertaining adaptation of the book.

The book (and film) begin with Dr. Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) waking up from a years-long coma in deep space, unaware of where he is, or who he is.

The movie’s plot revolves around a major dimming event from the sun, which would cause catastrophic events on earth. Scientists launch a ‘Hail Mary’ mission to find the cause of the dimming and solve it.
Ryan Gosling has the right balance of lighthearted, self-deprecating humor, and seriousness in the trailer.

Andy Weir’s nerd-meets-comedian approach to science works very well in the story, explaining the potential world-ending event, and what is being done to solve it.

Eva Stratt, played by German actor Sandra Hüller, adds a needed serious tone.
Take a look at the initial trailer below.
The trailer waits until the end to introduce the story’s iconic character Rocky, who we only see small flashes of.

Project Hail Mary is set to be released in theaters March 20, 2026.
