Skymill is a Delightful Kinetic Weather Sculpture

Meet Skymill, the desktop  weather sculpture that turns your forecast into a graceful metal ballet.

Designed by Gustav Rosén and crafted by KLONG, it brings you something far more poetic than a bland digital readout.

A modern, brown decorative object resembling a kettle, featuring design elements of a sun, cloud, bird, and birdcage on top, set against a textured surface.

🌦 What it Does

  • Live Weather, In Motion  Nine handcrafted metal icons (sun, cloud, rain, wind, snow, moon) rise and fall in real time, reflecting current conditions in a silent, elegant dance.
  • Peek into the Future  Twist the knob to preview the weather hours ahead (3–24 h). Inside, a discreet LED shows temp and humidity.
  • Air Quality Anxiety? Solved.  A tiny bird appears if CO₂ or dust crosses safe levels. It’s a nod to the canaries miners used for warning.
  • Craft in Every Turn: Housed in brushed copper with stainless gravures, each motorized arm glides on silent bearings.

Skymill reconnects us with the rhythms of our surroundings.

In a time when everything’s digital and immediate, this sculpture invites you to slow down, watch, and feel the weather.

Currently wrapping up a successful Kickstarter campaign, check out this amazingly unique product here.

WhatsApp Introduces Ads in Its App

Eli Tan and Mike Isaac, reporting for The New York Times:

On Monday, WhatsApp said it would start showing ads inside its app for the first time. The promotions will appear only in an area of the app called Updates, which is used by around 1.5 billion people a day. WhatsApp will collect some data on users to target the ads, such as location and the device’s default language, but it will not touch the contents of messages or whom users speak with. The company added that it had no plans to place ads in chats and personal messages.

(a) I’ve never once looked at the Updates tab in WhatsApp; (b) does anyone believe they’re not going to put ads in the other tabs sooner or later?
